"Boundaries and Belongings: A Conference on Transnationalism, Identity and Communications" will be held on January 17, 2009 Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Escaler Hall, Ateneo Loyola Heights campus.
This one-day conference aims to bring together scholars and students to explore the centrality of the media in the social, cultural, and ethical aspects of transnational life. Featuring plenary lectures from Dr. Mirca Madianou (Sociology, University of Cambridge) and Prof. Daniel Miller (Anthropology, University College London) and paper presentations from Ateneo Comm scholars, "Boundaries and Belongings" promises to open up a space to discuss how the increased mobility of peoples in a globalizing world raises significant new questions relating to:
* Identity: Negotiating self and other in spaces of difference
* Citizenship: Political engagement of diasporic communities
* Media and Communications: Centrality of media and communications in processes of social inclusion and exclusion
Admission is FREE!
Cocktails will be served.
