Bridge over the Pan-ay River

When the bridge across the Pan-ay River, linking the población of Roxas with the opposite bank, called tabuk (the place across), was built is uncertain. Technological details, notably the use of reinforced concrete, indicate that it may have been built early in the century, probably at the same time as the provincial capitol. The bridge is built of low arches that come together at the river's midpoint, where a buttressed pier supports the whole bridge. Cement balustrades separate the pedestrian from the vehicular pathway.

The Pan-ay River is the most beautiful natural feature of Roxas City's urbanscape. Dividing the city into two, the river originates in Tapaz, runs through Pan-ay, Banica, Roxas City and empties into Libas Bay, where the port is located. Flanking the river are roads and walkways that radiate from the bridge's approaches.
