The Abatan River has its headwaters in the highlands of northeast of Antequera, and flows down through Balilihan and Cortes, where it flows through a dense nipa forest before emptying into Maribojoc Bay. The river is a source of clean water used in Bohol. From its bed, sand used for construction is quarried. It is a shallow river and best traversed using the native boat or banca. Although regular cruises up and down the river have to be organized, it is possible to arrange for a rowboat to take you through this gem of river.
