Liloan

Liloan is a two known for a crispy cookie, called Rosquillos.  It was constituted a parish on 27 January 1845, in accordance with the decree of 1844.  It was for a long time a visita of Mandaue.  Dedicated to San Fernando King of Spain, Redondo (1886, 158) describes the church as “of modern construction.”  With the dimensions of 75.5 x 14.5 yards for the principal nave, and the transepts at 44 yards in length, this cruciform church belongs to the neo Baroque style.  While baroque decorations are employed, the basic lines of the church are classical.

The façade is flanked by a pair of bell towers, and the doors of church are emblazoned with a shallow relief of the emblem of the Augustinian order.

Campostela

With a poetic name “Field of Stars,” this 19th century parish was named after the famous place in Spain where Santiago (St. James the Apostle) is buried.  Erected on 21 July 1865 as a parish in accordance with the decree given the previous month on 15 June, Campostela was formerly a visita of Danao.  It patron is Santiago.  Redondo (1886, 159) describes the church, as having a façade of rubble but the rest of the church is a sorry structure of bamboo and thatch.

Danao City

Danao is a major city north of Cebu and is the jump off point to the Camotes Island.  Although its role as transportation hub is meeting stiff competition from the fast ferries that come from Cebu City, nonetheless, pumpboats regularly ply the Danao-Poro route.

Danao was established as a parish in 1742, although other sources claim that it was established earlier in 1671, with the patron as Santo Tomas de Villanueva.  Most of Cebu Island was under the Augustinians, but by the 19th century, the parishes and missions north of Cebu City were under the Recollects or seculars.  The 19th century was an era of church building.

Heritage Site:  Redondo (1886, 159) describes Danao church as being cruciform but roofed with nipa.  It had the dimensions: 64 x 15 yards, 12 in height, and 44 in length at the transept.  The present church of Danao is greatly renovated and it is difficult to ascertain which parts trace to the historic church.  The church is reported to have been fortified unfortunately no remains of fortifications stand.
