Azucarera de Tanjay
This
is a fully functioning sugar mill built in the early early 20th
century sugar mill.Like
most sugar mills it was complete community, with residential areas
set aside for staff and management. In the managers’ compound are a number of wooden houses
built in the American tropic style, consisting of wooden houses
raised from the ground by posts. The lower floor is generally open, and
the living areas are confined to the second floor.Tongue in groove planks laid horizontally characterize this
type of building.The
roof of galvanized iron sheets is painted green and so is the trim
of the house.Such type of architecture was common in
Baguio and in San Pablo, Laguna where American presence is noted.
Along
the road on the way to Bais is a charming wooden chapel with neogothic
decorations.
