Not
quite a heritage site, but a very popular destination, sometimes
better known than Aklan |
Iloilo City can be toured on foot or by vehicle as the city is small and the heritage sites are near each other. You can hire a cab for the whole day, a Tamaraw FX, or can arrange for vans and cars through a hotel. Also check the telephone directory for rent-a-car companies. You can also take public transportation (jeepneys and tricycles) or for some nostalgia, the calesa, a horse drawn carriage and once the most common means of public transportation. Bargain with the calesa drivers who wait at the Iloilo public market, along Iznart St.

EXTRA:
A road links the coastal town of Tigbauan to the mountain
town of Leon, the road is not as well maintained as the one
that begins from Iloilo and passes through San Miguel. The beaches
of the southern coast have black sand, some quite coarse. Most
go the beaches at Guimbal.
Antique
is connected to the principal cities of Panay Island through
a coastal road system. Travel time from Iloilo City to San Jose
takes about two hours.
The narrow plain and mountains of Antique prevent it
from having its own airport, so airline travelers have to
land at Iloilo, then travel by land either through public
buses, FX vans, or private vehicles. Some travelers pass through Antique on the way to Boracay Island
whose jump off point at Malay, Kalibo is near the provincial
boundary.
