JG SOM students win GlaxoSmithKline's Strategy Competition

Last December 12, 2005 marked the culmination of the first run of GlaxoSmithKline's "Enterprise" Corporate Strategic Competition. The contestants started their journey to the finals on November 18, 2005. After three weeks of rigorous case analyses, Team Profect, composed of team players Jaryd Chan (ADMU 3BS ME), Katrina Leung (ADMU 4BS MGT), Mark Uy (ADMU 3 BS ME) and Donald Ngwe (UP 4BS Eco); and Team Jlo, composed of Joanna Capones, Jonathan Joson (ADM-3 BSME), Marielle Lopez and Justine Paredes remained to compete for the final round. Team Jlo was eventually awarded second place while Team Profect was declared champion. Team Profect was awarded fifty thousand pesos (PHP 50,000.00).
For the final round, the qualifying teams were challenged to do a case study of an actual GSK case. Each team had to go through a boardroom simulation to present and defend the strategy that the members had jointly agreed to pursue. The board of judges were members of the GSK Executive Team composed of Lito Tadena, President and Managing Director; Patrick Valdez, SVP for Commercial; Noel Isberto, SVP for Corporate Affairs, Legal and Admin; Millie Lozada, VP for Vaccines and Pedia; Daisy Cembrano, VP for Value Health; Lulu E. Carrascoso, VP for Human Resources; Leo Cloma, VP for Finance and Liza V. Alivia, Organizational Development Director.
Three JGSOM Enterprisers were also given the distinction of Best Director for their respective functional areas: Jaryd Chan (Best Finance Director), Charles Yeung (Best HR Director) and Kat Palomo (Best Sales Director).
