Eminent American Scholar lectures on Corporate Finance

Dr. James Ang, The Bank of America Eminent Scholar and Professor of Finance at the Florida State University, gave a talk entitled Making Money in Corporate Finance: Understanding the How and Why at SOM 106 last February 1, 2005.  Students who are taking "Advance Finance" under Darwin Yu attended the talk.

Most finance theories have been built on assumptions about the existence of an efficient capital market.  In reality, however, many market inefficiencies exist, such as taxes, information asymmetries, agency problems, and discrepancies between borrowing and lending rates.  In the Philippines, these market inefficiencies are even more pronounced that those existing in western economies. The talk focused on how finance
managers can reconcile theory with practice.

This event was organized by the Finance and Accounting Department of the John Gokongwei School of Management.
